Michael Henning Golf Academy and ProShop
The Academy was created four years ago to bridge the gap between local residents wishing to try their hand at golf and the full members of the club. Golf is in serious trouble in England with golf clubs vying for the same customers. Since I commenced duties at Haywards Heath Golf Club eighteen years ago five new courses have been built in the locality and although the town has increased in population, there are not sufficient numbers to ensure that all the clubs have full or excess memberships. I believe that the numerical statistic is one 18 hole golf course required for every 25,000 of population. We obviously do not have the 150,000 residents in the Haywards heath and Burgess Hill necessary to justify this numerical equation. The Academy, I believe, is the most logical way of enticing new people into the club. It is not enough just to offer lessons and usage of the course, but the club and the professional team have to be totally flexible, accommodating and welcoming to usher in the new life blood of the club. The Academy members have been resolute in their participation of club social events and are thoroughly immersed into club life. Many have joined as full members and as second year academy members. My team and I will continue to maximise our endeavours to ensure, with the clubs blessing the continuous success of the Academy.
